Detroit Veteran Housing Flex Fund
In collaboration with the Detroit CoC Veteran Leadership Committee and a generous grant from Community Solutions, the Homeless Action Network of Detroit is able to offer timely and flexible financial assistance to Veterans to remove barriers to housing. The Veteran Housing Flex Fund aims to support and enable Veterans as they move into permanent housing by providing one-time financial assistance.
Purpose:
Veteran Housing Flex Fund supports Veterans in need of one-time financial assistance to exit homelessness and secure permanent housing. Specifically, the Fund was designed to enable and support Veterans moving from literal homelessness to permanent housing. The Enable portion of the Flex Fund is available to enable Veterans to quickly move into housing by removing barriers to entering housing. These funds can be used for things like security deposits, move-in costs, security deposits, etc. The support portion of the Flex Fund is designed to provide financial assistance to Veterans to help them make their house feel like a home and can be used at the Veteran’s discretion, being clear on this intent. The fund will be used when the following criteria are met:
The Veteran is on the By-Name List.
The Veteran would continue to experience homelessness but for this one-time financial assistance.
Sufficient funds are available in the Veteran Housing Fund to fulfill the request.
The cost cannot be covered by any other existing community resources.
Eligibility Criteria:
To receive assistance, the Veteran must be experiencing homelessness. The individual submitting the request is responsible for verifying the Veteran is able to maintain their housing after limited assistance is provided. The Homeless Action Network of Detroit will consider requests for Veterans being assisted by rapid re-housing programs, but where these programs cannot cover the expenses associated with the enable and/or support portions of the fund.
